This bio begins in 1941 when Sept was apprenticed at the Angliss Food Trades School in Melbourne, Australia. Initially placed in the Aircrew Reserve, he was enlisted in RAAF Aircrew training at Bradfield Park in Sydney as a Wireless Air Gunner and under went further training at Maryborough & Evans Head before promotion to Sergeant and posted to No. 1 Personnel Pool in Melbourne.
His first posting as a WAG was an attachment to the 13th Bomb Squadron of the 3rd Bomb Group. Arriving at Charters Towers in December 1942 along with Ron James, Neville McNamara & Charles Endersby ( All Pilots ) as well as Scotty Melville and himself ( WAGs ), they arrived too late to transport with the Squadron aircraft to Port Morseby. They departed Townsville aboard the USS George Matthews arriving in time to celebrate Christmas and Sept's birthday on January 1, 1943 at the 13th Squadron encampment at 14 Mile Airdrome.
