George F. Moon was born June 14, 1920 in  Van, Texas. He  moved to Longview, Texas in 1930.

 Enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 15, 1939.  Assigned to Headquarters Squadron  3rd Bombardment Group at Barksdale Field.  The 15 of September, 1939 was the date that the 3rd Attack Group was redesignated as the 3rd Bombardment Group (L).

Attended Parachute Riggers School at Chanute Field in 1939.

Attended  Spartan School of  Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma for training as an aircraft mechanic during 1940 and rejoined the 3rd Bombardment Group after the move to Savannah Army Air Base in Savannah, Georgia.

Went to Australia with the 3rd BG aboard the USAT ANCON.

Transferred  to the 89th Squadron Engineering Section while at Charters Towers. Moved with the Squadron ( August 30, 1942 ) to Port Moresby at Kila ( 3 Mile ).

Transferred to the 13th Bombardment Squadron shortly before the Japanese attack of April 12, 1943.
